Four Tour Guides become 'Emergency First Responders'Over the last weekend four of our tour guides became 'Emergency First Responders'. Tour guides Mike, Luke, Neng, and Ae are now formerly certified by Emergency First Response, Corp for two courses: Emergency First Resonse Primary Care (CPR) and Emergency First Response Seconday Care (First Aid). Although no one has needed CPR on our tours, Red Bicycle is ready! We have had one compressed vertebrae that needed Primary Care skills to manage both shock and spinal injury. Secondary Care skills are used more commonly during our tours. Knowledge of simple bandaging and wound cleaning is essential especially in this tropical climate. All of our guides have become more sensitive to recognizing signs and asking questions about symptoms regarding shock and spinal injury as the result of bicycle falls. All guides are required to take a cell phone with EMS numbers, barriers (gloves, ventilation barriers), absorbent dressings, gauze pads, rolled bandages, adhesive bandages, adhesive tape, dry pads, triangular bandages, sterile cotton, cotton swabs and saline solution for cleaning, and Betadine for antiseptic. We also carry the following form which we use to assess illnesses and pass off to the professional EMS team: IllnessAssessmentForm.pdf. |
